Dude, I really thought your photo was going to win. In my humble opinion it was the pic with the best use of out of focus background. I can't believe you finished 37th! It goes to show how much I don't know about photography... Still, it's a great shot. |

yes, you have achieved a bokeh effect that definitely adds a feeling to the image (albeit, not a pleasing feeling). seeing that you know how to do this, i imagine you could recreate it using any number of objects other than a cliched chess piece...

Great use of dof. Left just enough in focus for us to make out the yes. Nice choice for b&w. |

i don't think that this photo is good, but I think it's the content that makes it good, not the bokeh |

Simple and clever. Bokeh Boy looks suitably intense, bordering on demented. 7. |

Interesting concept. The idea would have worked much better in another challenge. I guess it could be considered bokeh to some degree but really you are not separating your subject from the BG, but using the BG to add to the drama of the shot. |

Very nice use of light with the piece being fully lit with the eyes dull and soft in the background |

Good one! Love the glaring eyes in the backround gives it that intense chesslike mindframe. |

The background is more interesting than the foreground, but that's okay with me. It's really a great use of bokeh. I really like the idea and its execution. |

The short definition of Bokeh from KenRockwell.com, which I am using for voting on this challenge: "Bokeh describes the rendition of out-of-focus points of light." I'm not seeing that here. Is the subject enhanced by the bokeh of the background? The subject is enhanced by the background, but it isn't really bokeh. Very nice composition and tones. |
