How? Pre-focused the camera to 3 m at the wide-angle end of the lens and threw the brolly to the air, pressed the button and tried to guess for shutter lag. Repeated many times. JPEG from camera was brightened up with levels and the colours of the umbrella further enhanced by saturation as they were pretty dull in this overcast weather. The background stayed unchanged as it was grey to start with. That's it!

Shown is the full-frame shot. I kept the brambles to provide a reference point. Would have loved to shrink it even further without having to get it higher but 38 mm was the widest I could get out of the lens.

Thanks for looking and all comments, past and present!

Cheers!

Quite a distinctive entry and a lovely composition overall. I wonder if cropping off the bottom shrubbery completely might have been a cleaner presentation. Still a strong entry. Bumping up.

Great capture. Little shallow in color and depth though. BOL 6

Great idea, but it lacks the "Wow" factor - the flat sky doesn't do much for the colors of the umbrella, and the little bit of bramble in the corner is more bothersome than helpful. You definitely need something there to emphasize the lift of the umbrella from the ground, but that isn't doing it. I really like the idea, though, so I'm giving a 6.

I thought about doing this myself, but it was pouring rain all week and I couldn't get outside to do it! I think yours may have come out better anyway :)

Nice idea,, but the bushes on the right are distracting.

Nice observation. Good job you kept some reference of the ground in, but really you could have done with some more. I don't think it would have mattered if the subject was smaller in the frame because it's very brightly coloured (unless other objects in view were equally dazzling).

Nice shot. It would bee goo dto see just a little hand reaching out of the bottom right corner... 8

Great idea. Would be better (although probably not on topic) with better sky. Contrast to bring out the colors of the umbrella might also help 6

I might like the colors brighter.

And I was expecting it to be Mary Poppins, but then no Nanny appeared. I like this, there's a certain lunatic (in a nice way) edge to the composition. A shame that that hedge line couldn't be cleaner - it feels halfway an accidental inclusion (although obviously not) for being so disorganised. The very featureless sky doesn't really help this kind of stuff, either, I think: the very madness of it requires a big bright sky, I would think. I know, you can't choose your weather; but ... well, the image still cries out for it, to me. 6
