Did not expect this shot to be the one I chose, but the background really was the best blur factor that I shot all day. The bokeh did leave some wicked strange artifacts tho.

Never spotmeter a dark object on snow! I wound up having to duplicate the background, multiply, mask and then white paint down the overexposed areas (an alternate burn/dodge technique) - I'm pretty sure this is allowed for advanced editing, at least this is how you would do it in the darkroom.

So:
RAW, duplicate layer, duplicate layer
Set 2nd layer to Multiply and BlackMask it.
White Paint over areas that should be darkened.
Merged Visible.
Shadow/Highlight to take just a bit more of the glare out.
Burn the eye.
Clone the halos out of the snowcap on post.
Light USM for contrast.
Size and Submit.
