Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Breaking New Ground (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Renfrew, Ontario, Canada
Date: Jan 12, 2005
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: bulb exposure
Galleries: Landscape, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Jan 12, 2005

To make this photograph, I pointed my camera at a large mirror, and turned off all the lights in my room except my lavalamp, to create the green glow in the background. I then hit the remote to open the shutter and, with a small flashlight, I wrote my name in the air. I then closed the shutter with the remote and the shot was complete.

neat--this is cool. i really like the concept and the lighting, and i think i think this could have been even cooler if you had maybe thrown a black sheet behind you (or something) to block the background--just to simplify the shot a tad. still, great idea! :)

I'll tell you what I really like about this - the fact that the letters are individual. In most of these kinds of photos, there is a continuous line joining all of the elements. Each letter is also very crisp, and the exposure almost identical over the whole writing area - pretty tricky to achieve - very well done.

I'm not so fussed about the background etc, but it's pretty hard to avoid. A black drape behind you, and possibly one around the camera, revealing only the lens may be interesting to try - might end up with a ghostly, blurred and disembodied head by the writing.
