Well now - this is truly my favorite shot taken in at least 10 years so hoping it does better than my others.

Part of my Xmas present from my lovely girlfriend was a surprise trip to Salzburg 2 days after Christmas, with me in control of what we do so i could take photographs (My own photographic holiday if you will)

On the 3rd day we got the train to Germany and found Bavaria - a Sunny snow covered gem of a place where you can't help but get a nice shot.

This image was probably the worst technically as it was late in the day, I was tied, cold and wet from taking photographs on land. This was on the boat trip out of the alps on our way back. I took my time to compose, but didn't have time to load up my Nd Grad etc as I would have missed it and decided composition was more important.

I also knew it would be B&W so i wasn't that bothered.

Editing was plentiful, but also very basic. Purely dodging and burning with masks, selections and by zooming in all the way. A very careful operation which took about 5 days on and off.

This is great. Absolutely great b and w nature landscape. I love the texture of the puffy clouds back against the jagged snow on the mountain tips. nice nice work. This is top five no matter what anybody says.

Well Jon - I'm shocked that this was also a seedy bondage holiday:
" ... it was late in the day, I was tied, cold and wet from taking photographs... "

Still, I bet it spiced things up nicely and you wouldn't be short of a few wife-swappers round those parts!

stunning! Surely one for the wall!

Great choice for B&W.
The sky and the mountain seem to be competing here, partially due to the tall crop. ((7))

Really beautiful processing- great details.

The inclusion of those buildings nicely helps the sense of scale here. I'm never really sure that the limitations of 8-bit web display are terribly helpful for black and white images, and those of such grandeur as this also suffer from the size limitations. It should be a 20" print to give it its full impact, I should think. I like the composition, and I think I like the processing - thoough the bright areas feel more like burning than light, as such, and seem a touch out of the real. A very strong shot.

Another technically well done black and white landscape shot. The addition of the houses gives this shot a sense of perspective. I particularly like the shadows on the mountain face. 8

I've always wanted to go there and now I feel like I'm there (10)

quite simply: a stunning image, especially the details. one of my top picks. can't offer any improvements, so i'll just sit here a minute and enjoy it, if you don't mind ;-)

Nice dramatic scene. Really like the way the cloud formation almost appears to be an extension of the mountain. Congratualtions on a really great shot. 8

Great work

This is a really beautiful photo with excellent detail and sharpness. The bottom right corner seems a bit dark to me, but that's a minor point in an overall outstanding shot. Very nice job!

Beautiful, love the choice of B&W

very dramatic sky and moutains.Think it would look very pretty rather than dramatic in colour. very nice, well done

Very rich image with the depth and shadows. B&W conversion gives it an ominous mood. I would be interested to see the colour version. Good shot.

Excellent mood in this image, great capture - well done

Very nice. I like how you used size and placement in this. The pattern of the clouds works well with the texture in the mountains. Looks like the snowy areas could be a little more white. They seem a tad gray on my monitor. Maybe it's the shadows from the clouds...?

A lot of Ansel Adams type photos in this challenge, but yours really stands out! Well done. - 9

Great dramatic landscape. The small houses lend perspective to the awesome mountains. Sky a bit dark for my taste, but it does show off the clouds to good effect. ...8...

Wow! Makes me want to get on an airplane. Well done.

The pattern in the sky works well with the pattern on the mountain itself. The light falls great, the houses at the foot give scale and the reflection in the water gives it just that little bit extra. Excellent photo.

Wow in my favorites.10

Great location... is this a wide-angle shot? I like it overall... but the contrast seems a bit high. It's kind of hard to look at for very long.
