 I think this will end up closer to the brown ribbon side of the lineup, and that i will get a bunch of comments about hilights not being perfect and grain.

I don't care, this is how i saw it, and i think this is one of the best shots i made in 2004. Although it's very unlike most of my other photos.

As for the highlits, the light in that club sucked, and i wasn't allowed to use flash, nor did i have a 50/1.4 lens or anything like that.

Grain and b/w conveys a lot about the time of jazz. I don't see this shot made differently.

wow, that's a capture! love the raw emotion that comes through the grain. great composition, and good job with the post-processing. i hope this doesn't fall through the cracks, and that it gets the attention it deserves. good luck with this, and all the challenges yet to come!
