When discussing soft focus techniques, it is often stressed that there is a difference between a soft focus shot and an out of focus shot. This shot is out of focus, and I like it.

As far as breaking new ground goes, it's hard to imagine that any of us are going to come up with something that's really never been experimented with and done before... and on the other extreme I'd like to think that all of my work has a unique style to it... so I settled on a shot that used an unconventional technique which seemed to work for me.
I haven't the slightest clue about how this will score, but it'll be interesting to see what people think.

don't like your explanation. it's like when that gentleman in the 1800s said "everything that can be invented has been invented." innovation happens every day

Great shot, really like the tone, expression and overall composition. Being slightly out of focus makes it that much more interesting. 9

did you mean bad focus

The composition for the portrait is very good. But there's no area with a good focus, and it looks like if u'd have used a high ISO. Improve the lights in the next one.
Good work doing portraits thou.

I like the effect you got with this photo. I like the way the one eye is looking right at the viewer and the other is hidden in the shadows. There seems to be just a trace of noise banding of the right side of the photo.

I really like this soft focus in a great closeup portrait. The hair looks great falling over the eye.

Nice image kind of Heida colors - like the subdued nature. Wouldn't consider it breaking new grounds, but it does have a style.
