 A pair of calipers I own and use. The old one is called a vernier caliper which describes the method of measuring very fine increments by using a fixed scale and a sliding scale that has the same number of divisions but is slightly longer than the fixed scale. When the a pair of lines meet, that indicates the measurement.

The digital caliper has been in use in industry for only a few decades, and has been cost-effective for a home-shop machinist such as myself for only a few years. The number that is shown is the metric equivalent to one inch.

The calipers are sitting on a 1-2-3 block, and the backdrop are prints of plans for devices I've built.

Shot with a Tokina 28-80 ATX Pro zoom at 47mm. Camera was on a tripod, and I used a Sigma EF500 flash hand-held with an off-camera cord. The warm spot in the center was made with a flashlight.

Post editing: crop, rotate, levels for saturation, and USM.

I like the idea two VernierĂ¢€™s one digital one not.

I wish there was not quote so much shadow here, some lighting on the paper would really lift this image.

Havinf the blueprints in the background provides a nice context for the tools. Nice to see an entry with some thought behind it.

This picture could have used some more light over the rest of the picture rather thaan just the center.

its a good subject and a well composed photo, but in my opinion the blue cast from the flash throws this one off a bit.
