Challenge: Old and New (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Panasonic DMC-FZ20
Location: Jefferson City, Missouri
Date: Jan 24, 2005
Aperture: f/8.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/2
Galleries: Vintage, Still Life

My father loaned me his Voigtlander Vag folding camera he carried in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He used it to take many fine b&w photos in India and China in 1945. My son carries his Nikon 2100 at college.

I set up this shot to show the new camera was basically the same as the old camera. I placed both in front of a mirror and with a little adjustment of angles, they appear to be reflecting one as the other.

Har-de-har-har! I like it and I give you a 10!

The old and new part is fine. The compostion is a little disconnected for me. It appears as if you are trying to keep them separate via the use of the frame, but for me the frame is a distracting element.

Maybe put the newer camera closer to the frame.

Unfortunately, being a photography website you can expect that this type of theme is used excessively. That being so, it makes the photgrapher's work that much harder because it is not original. The overall focus of the shot is not too bad but it is very evident where your primary light source originates thus resulting in shadows. You have decided to incorporate a frame in the photo yet it is just sitting there acting more as an eyesore than an enhancement. I would have used the older camera as the primary focus because it is so much more interesting than these new plastic cases we all have. The subjects are too centered and are presented in a catologue manner. Your willingness to include things to dress up the shot is admirable but adding some creativity could have given more favorable results. Hope that helps.

A novel idea, but it would have been more effective if you'd have included more "reflected" items on both sides of the frame.

Having the digicam closer to the frame would have allowed a tighter crop, and better detail in both images. The right side of the frame is distracting, and the image would have worked fine without it.

Cool idea - a different composition would have worked better.

Think your nikon could have been closer to get a little more height to the older camera but good idea...similar to mine good luck
