 Balanced a feather on a piece of light test fishing line, and tried various lighting setups. This was on bulb setting, holding the flash set at 1/64th over the feather.
Shot in RAW converted with minor sharpening and 1/2 bump in exposure and contrast. I cloned out the line where i could see it and it wasn't behind feather. Converted for web in Elements and then sharpened 60,.5,0.
Though it looks B&W this is not a desat image, you can see a tiny bit of color in the stem of the quill. this is a color image of black and white elements.
