I feel for your voting woes Nick. The "Light" challenge description intentionally included the languageâ€Â¦
"Any definition of the word is acceptable for this challenge"
â€Â¦and that should be the judging standard for that aspect of the score. For someone to broadly adjust their voting score because they personally would prefer a more narrow definition smacks of egotism and does little for the photographers participating, unless you include discouragement as a goal.
The image is in clear focus and well lit. However as othes have said, the facial hair is scraggly and distracting and the overall impact is lessened for me.
Maybe I'll also take points off for it being in Black & White...I don't think they should be in the challenge ; )

| Ok...I'm here because I wanted to see what the fuss was about (your thread 'Unfair voting'). I think the composition is ok, the lighting is good, and the focus/detail is right on. I do tend to agree with another commenter 'arpita' that the first place the eyes wander to is the face and facial hair (she had a typo - sutblle). The feather seems like a secondary subject. Not sure that I have any suggestions on how it could have composed differently...sorry. I am curious to see if you find my comment helpful, seeing as you didn't find the comment from 'arpita' worthy. Was it because hers was negative? |

| nothing wrong with the shot, but i tended to downgrade all the feather interpretations of "light". Probably not fair, i admit, but I was looking for lighting not lightweight |

My eyes go to the stubble and not the feather at all!!

| I like the idea and comp. I wish we could see the feather in midair/in the wind though. I could be wrong but it seems obvious to me that someone is holding the feather just outside the frame. The bottom of the feather shows motion from your breath but the top is motionless...therefore telling me this wasn't actually a 'feather in the wind'. It would be harder to capture but I think it would work better and convey your title better. This is still a great shot though. Nice job. |
