Obviously the title is a word play on "God is light" (1 John 1:5), but I hope it reflects the existential nature of light, at least in photography for sure. No additional lighting here except for the candle itself. It was a struggle (but fun) to get it in the right place for a good lighting of the face and reflections in the eyes, and also to keep my model static through a fairly long exposure.

P/p: slight curve adjustment, cloning out of minor blemishes, crop, neat image, save for web

Thanks to my lovely niece Katya for modeling for me!

Just so you know, I gave this an 8. I liked the isolation of the face with the candlelight. I approve of your (sacriligeous?) title. The soft focus, expression, character of the image are all so pleasing to me.

Those eyes are worth a 10. Bumping up.

This photo shows a lot of potential. The face of the child could have been softened up a bit though, right now it just looks a bit blurred. Could have used a different color candle that was more the color tone with his face.

I enjoyed this photo except for the cropping, mostly on the bottom. I think you should have left some negative space to make this better.

Your title has it backwards, which if you are Christian, is quite sacriligeous. :-)

Whether that is your intent or not is not that relevant, just a side note. On to the picture. The composition is good overalll. The child's curiosity is evident in his bright upward gaze. The candle is also nicely exposed with the shaft fading into darkness. The point lighting is quite effective.

The image could be a bit sharper but in this particular composition is just a minor issue as the soft focus is flattering in the setting of the warm glow of the candlelight. Overall well done. 7
