Roadside monument for Silvia. I don't know who she was, but when I ride on this road and see this monument I always notice it and start to behave a bit nicer in the traffic (I speed when I am on my own and think there is no possibility to hurt someone).
Surely this isn't a winner, it is more about the content. Things like this deserve a bit of attention once in a while. The day I went to shoot this it rained a lot. But as soon as I decided to take a photo of it and rode over there the sky broke open and the sun came out. And it started raining again when I was done (little break from work).
According to my father's memory Silvia was a passenger of a driver who was speeding. When a lorry made a right turn into a street, just in front of this monument, the driver approached with very high speed from behind and was either reacting to late because of the speed or saw it too late because of his speed. The car hit the backside of the lorry with the passengers side, Silvia's side with fatal results.
It has little to do with the traffic sign in this photo, my idea was more that the monument itself is a traffic sign: don't speed, think about others, caution, etc.
The monuments says:
Lieve Silvia,
Als een vlinder fladderde jij door het leven
opgewekt en vrolijk, alles intens beleven
Nu ben jij weggevlogen bij ons vandaan
Maar je mooie kleuren blijven bestaan

A rough translation:
Dear Silvia,
Like a butterfly you fluttered trough life
Cheerful and merry, enjoying live intensely
Now you have flown away from us
But your pretty colors remain

I think a tighter crop would have served your shot better. |

Strangely, the lamp post to the right seems to pop out and dominate unnecessarily. |

Interesting road sign to say the least. One can only assume that it from a fatal accident. Nice composition and great colors. Good luck in this challenge. |
