Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Pain (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Nagoya, Japan, School Classroom
Date: Feb 7, 2005
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/4
Date Uploaded: Feb 8, 2005

I'm the first to admit the idea is not mine. What you see is my interpretation of strain2k's idea. Any praises I get for this idea will be relayed in full to him via e-mail.

That said, this was my first studio shot and I realise it's not perfect, but it's the best I could do in an hour and a half.

Post-processing consists of curves, USM, crop, resize and USM again. Colors are straight from the camera (probably not a good idea...)

Be gentle, this is only my second challenge...

This was my meaning of pain.

Wow, 24 comments on my second challenge ever! And a jump of more than 40 places. I feel the DPC community is really helping me focus on photography better. Thanks again for the comments, everyone. As I said, all credit goes to strain2k, whose idea I shamelessly stole.

I like this idea, i've seen it before on DeviantArt, the photo would benefit from a little sharpening though...

Post no signs.

I really like this picture. I think a little larger DOF would allow the front screw to be totally in focus. Definitely in my top ten though.

I like it! You and the guy who stapled the apple together should hang out!

Looks slightly out of focus and oversharpened to compensate. Good idea, could do with less chain from the top and a slightly tighter crop on the apple and hardware.

I've seen this done many, many times before. It seems a little out of focus to me.

the composition is very nice and perfectly fit to the challenge, but the nails seem to be blurred.

Again fruits can not feel pain or else we shouldn't eat them at all.

This is similar to the other apple-with-nails photo. I think that one was better, because it was closer-up.

I love this picture. Personaly, I would've gave it more negative space. Rule of third, apple in the lower right intersection. But I love the tones and the grainyness...

The apples are taking a beating in this challenge. This one doesn't work for me.

Nailed, screwed, drilled, pierced and hung. Covered all the bases. Looks painful to me!

well composed. I don't see a whole lot of pain, though. I just kinda wish I could pull out all the screws, nails, and eat the apple (it looks pretty juicy).
