This is my first try at portraiture. I do mostly landscapes, birds and vacation shots. I do not know if they are harder but self portraits were difficult for me as we tend to be pretty critical of our own image, not to mention running back and forth to the camera to check settings and outcome! Anyway, however this comes out in the challenge I’m happy with the learning experience and the result. Hope I get lots of input for future work in this area.
Set up using reflected 500 watt halogen off ceiling from right, 150 watt incandescent from left and above, black fleece backdrop.
Using MS Digital Image Pro - crop, slight adjustment to white balance (color menu), small increase in adjustment of levels and curves, adjust luminant noise (50), USM portraiture preset, resize.

A great and honest representation with an image that is infectious with the projection of tranquility in character. The colors are great and the background help support the rendition. Bumping up.
Solid detailing, natural pose, strong sense of the real. You could sure have used some additional light though, to give some sense of depth to it all - this appears to be a single source direct from the camera angle, and it could have been really interesting with more shaping.
straight forward, crisp and clean, skin tone is also ok, I would have wanted more contrast, but then again it's not my photo. :) did you use shadow highlight here? anyway good capture. 7
