Challenge: Self-Portrait III (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Olympus E-10

A slightly dark exposure almost ruined this image. I probably shot 40 outtakes, and most were exposed better, but this was the best pose with the best use of the eyes.

I could possibly Neat Image the grain out, at the expense of the raw honesty that I feel this image portrays.

I don't feel like this is a winner, but it says "me" pretty well.

Hell yeah, go Tar Heels!!! I've got that exact same hat, among others, and its got just as much good luck grime on it :). With the 2006 recruiting class coming in, the Heels are gonna be tough next year.

Check out the fisheye shot that I have in my portfolio of the Dean Dome if you get a chance.

Go Heels!

Cool as the smirk carries the viewers eye across the entire face. The lighting is fine but it is the expression that gives this portrait its great strength. The cap and background add the spice to complete the composition. Bumping up.

i don't know anything about portraiture, so i'm using your image to try to figure out what i think i would or wouldn't do in this situation, as well as what i notice and get out of your image.

excellent work. you have captured the essence of the individual. the lighting brings out a nice range of tones across your face, and offers a nice catchlight. the supporting elements all tie together nicely too say who you are. this all works very well. thanks for sharing! and good luck in the challenge!

[and on a side-note: my family is from durham, and i lived in the triangle area for about 3 years after college. a friend of mine with season tickets to duke used to take me to the duke-unc game, where i'd be the only person in the crowd wearing a light-blue cardigan ;-) i've been saying GO TARHEELS since the phil ford days...]

I am wearing that same hat right now! I like your composition, and the lighting is decent. I would have left your chin in the crop though. Still, it is a great attempt at capturing your spirit! 7

The chin cropping is so subtle, I think I'd have backed up a bit more so it stayed in frame. Otherwise, nice composition.

Nicely positioned off center. The light from the left does not help to accent the subject. More even lighting might have looked better, but over all a very good expressive shot.
