This is in the style of Edward Weston who did a study such as this. I used incandescent lighting and a variety of reflecting surfaces - paper, etc - to put the highlights where I wanted them. I then used a very long exposure and small aperature.

I think that you did a great job here, it was instantly recognisable as Westons Style. I think that you did a great job with the lighting in the front, perhaps a tiny bit more in the back would have been good. really great shot though!!

...and then you did what? Did you use channels to convert to b&w? I think that another channel might have worked better. I actually do find this a bit too dark. I'd like to see all of the edges, but some are disappearing into the darkness. I'd also like the whole pepper to stand out just a little more. Perhaps you could try some montones or duotones to get different looks. I also think it is cropped way too tightly - feels almost squished inside the frame with no room to move.
I haven't seen Weston's work, but neither have most of the other voters and photographers viewing this.
I like the photo's simplicity. I also like the angle/perspective. I do think that you can do a successful shot that focuses on the lines and texture of the pepper - using only a black background. I just think that the pepper needs to be more visible and the lighting should be more dramatic (especially since everyone has different monitor settings).

This is different! I wonder what the original color was. I'm going for green! Nice texture you got there.

I love these Weston style pepper shots for sure... this is no exception... I think the image could stand just a little more light overall to make it perfect :) - setzler

Photograph meets the Challenge; Visual impact of the Pepper is good; Focus is good; Shows some originality; Lighting is good.
I would like to have seen this in color, I don't think black and white does it justice.

It's hard to tell what it is since there's no color.

Maybe if the pepper had been lighter as a better contrast against the dark background?
