Taken in a room now serving as an office. Two Indian fetish bears were placed on a melamine work surface. The unusual framing is an act of creative desparation since any other composition would have cluttered the photo with office furniture and wall decorations.

These shiny black bears were photographed in four locations indoors and out in dozens of exposures. Few surface finishes pose so much of a problem in a subject ( or opportunity ) since the objects reflect the whole world as an image into the camera. The shiny surface poses serious problems for an auto focus and exposure camera. Since I have not (yet) bothered to learn the manual exposure options (not that they are anyting like those on a good SLR) I had to figure out ways of faking the camera into exposing correcty, at one point setting up a cookbook at the same distance as the small bear and using it to focus and set exposure.

Editing consisted of a levels adjustment, curves, hue/sat to desaturate, and cropping.

What is this? I'd vote it higher if I had any idea what this was. Sorry!
