I created this effect by placing a lava lamp between two mirrors so the image bounced back and forth and shot just to the left of one of the mirrors. (If anyone is having trouble picturing this, I have a couple of test shots as I was trying to set up the mirrors in which you can see me to one side.)

After shooting I cropped, but did not adjust the color, etc.

I thank everyone for their comments. I did want to address one I got a couple of times about focus, I was using a large aperture because of the darkness and when I focused on the closest lava lamp it threw the farthest ones way out of focus. If you look you'll see the picture is focused on the second lamp in the series. Not ideal, but it was the best I could come up with at the time. Any blur in the second lamp is just a result of the lava moving.

Here's a picture of the setup in case you're interested:

Good subject, composition, color, and nice mirror work. I'm very surprised this didn't make the top 10.

Hmm, clever use of mirrors? Nice set up.

Night use of mirrors, focus seems off, but I can understand why with the lack of light

I like the lline, and the black background. Simple and effective.

The spacing feels awkward, but the mood comes through the soft colors against the pure black background. Did you shoot into a mirror? If not, I would question the amount of editing you did.

Maybe if it rotated as it moved back it would be more "groovy." ;)

Brought back some good memories but mostly bad. Broke my uncle's lava lamp over his TV. Couldn't sit for a week. Good shot. Looks like you done a long shutter speed. I like it.
One of my top three. 10

The front lamp could use better focus, but an over cool and well executed idea. 7

Cool, nice technique.

I'm guessing you used mirrors. Good concept and execution!

Mirrors?

I like the concept and the lighting but the glare on the glass hurts the composition some.

best I've seen yet! fantastic job on the solid black backround, and way to go on capturing symmetry. 9
