while I understand the concept and agree that it fits the challenge. I just don't see it as a very apealing photo. It is slightly out of focus and not very forboding. Perhaps if there were people in the courtyard or somthing to get me interested I would enjoy this more..

Ok first let me start with the good points, The title, and your interpretation of the challenge.

lighting: There is nothing really spectacular about the lighting, it looks like it was taken at 12:30 or 1:00 in the afternoon. Try a softer light like sunrise or sunset, the lighting is much more warm and it casts nice shadows.

Composition: There is nothing really to focus on, the whole photo is kind of jumbled together, also there is no borders so the photo kind of has tunnel vision, meaning the viewers eyes stray to the edges of the photo and beyond. So it really does not hold the attention of the viewer. The first thing I notice is the stop sign and I don't think thats what you were going for. The pole is also a big distraction because it is directly in the center of the photo, which makes people feel like the photo is divided.

Post processing: I noticed right away that you used to much unsharp mask, that is a tricky filter that has to be done just right. See how it makes the tops of the trees look unreal. I think if you would have selectet the grass and used the unsharp mask on only that it would have gave it some more texture.

Overall : I know how you felt about taking this photo, I'm sure you were a little nervous, which never makes for a good photo. The more you are relaxed the better the photo will be. It is good for you first entry, don't be offened by anyones comments. DPC is a very tough croud and there are alot of really good photographers here, that have been doing it for years, The more photo's you enter the better you will get I promise. Like I said at work I am proud of you for taking the first step to become a better photographer. Keep up the good work.

creative take, but looks a bit off to me - possibly oversharpened? not sure.

I'm surprised you didn't get accosted for taking this picture. Did the police/prison guards ask you why you were taking these pics?

Great idea, but I think there are other ways to imply the seperation of imprisonment that would have a deeper impact.
