Challenge: Separation (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Sony DSC-V1
Location: San Jose International Airport
Date: Feb 19, 2005
Aperture: 5.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 2.50 sec.
Galleries: Still Life, Studio
Date Uploaded: Feb 19, 2005

Done using water for bottom two layers, density adjusted with sugar, top layers on both are isopropyl alcohol

Thank goodness this was advanced editing... that saved me. I made such happy excellent use of selective gaussian blur- got ride of lots of reflections that way. Cloned out several splashes on the rims. Selective Color to boost yellows. Levels to increase contrast slightly and further clean up yellows. Final move was resize, then slight selective USM.

This was about my fourth try for "Separation" - my first attempt was at the airport to get a candid of people saying goodbye, but that failed. But this I could more or less do, though there's definitely still room for improvement.

My two big gripes about this one: the slight line between the two glasses, and the lack of detail on the far side of the large glass/vase thing.

Took about three hours to get this shot, start to finish.

Good idea but this is the kind of photography that needs very good lightning and have to be pinsharp to work well.

very nice. definitely superior to a similar entry of mine. one minor thing that i would suggest if you reshot would be to somehow avoid getting the upper part of the right glass to show through the clear part of the left glass.. minor detail - nice image.
