Excellent DOF and great composition/placement of the caterpillar. Sharp focus too. The "verticalness" of the shot may be enhanced if you turned the image 90 degrees CW or perhaps even 180 degrees. Really well done. 9 |

I appreciate that this IS a vertical climb but only because I take your word for it. The image itself doesn't show me that and therefore I'm taking a point off.

Excellent macro!!!! I remember this kind of caterpillar from my school days back in New Zealand (many years ago!!!) It looks so similar, they turn into monarch butterflies. I didn't know you got them where you are, unless you are in New Zealand. Aha, this is New Zealand, so it must be Hoogie!!!! Right? Good one mate, 10 from me! |

Awesome shot! Nice clarity and I love the colors. I like the DOF used here. Just the right amount of blur in the background but nice job keeping the subject in good focus throughout. Good luck with the challenge! |

It's great, but I don't get the feel he's climbing up something. Don't get me wrong, it's a great shot! |

wow. awesome shot. i think i read about this in the forums. it's a shame people think this is not "from above," they must not know how to read (the title). I think it's definetely one of the best this challenge. Great focus and clarity and the complimentary red and green make an interesting place to have the yellow black and white catepillar in between. Awesome shot. |

This is an excellent photo for sure... the colors are great and the macro work is also phenomenal. The only issue I see is that in viewing this image, I don't get the feeling that this is a 'from above' perspective, even though it may be... - setzler |

Well, maybe he's going in the wrong direction for the "challenge", but the colors are very good, and the clarity is great. |

This is a great shot, good colors,DOF and composition, but this challenge was,IMO, to shoot something from above and to give the perspective of looking down on something. I know you shot down on him, but it doesn't look/feel that way. |

Just about perfect. I would maybe have cropped out that light spot on the leaf, it's just a little distracting to me. I love the red behind teh caterpiller, really contrasts well with the little guy. Good luck. 9 |

Saw the posts about whether this was taken looking down or level or whatever. I had already scored it and didn't question what direction it was taken in. You had already gotten a 10 from me because it's an exceptional image with good DOF and good composition. Interesting little critter, too! Has the "WOW" factor that people sometimes talk about. |

Fabulous detail, great colour, great shot in general. For the challenge though, there's nothing to give an impression of the verticality of this climb - nothing that says this isn't a horizontal leaf. I'm not suggesting it's made up, but that the shot needs an element to say 'shooting down'. There wasn't a requirement to make that point in the challenge, obviously, but it's an element I feel is necessary in this case. Still a very good photo though |
