My husband looking at a photography book under the skylight in our living room. Used a little spotlight filter, softened it a little; clone tool to remove a light switch... and some cropping, too.

I really like the lighting on this photo.

This appeals to me; the simple composition, the dramatic splash of sunlight (which reminds me of a 19th century Dutch painting), the beautiful pewter-like glow of the book, and the barely discernible background details. There's nothing spectacular about it, and yet the overall effect is harmonious and pleasing. 8

good lighting...maybe you should of made this black and white?? This photo is not too striking. It is rather a dull composition but technically it is nicely shot, I like the black background you achieved and good focus....a (7) from a generous Jet fan !

The strong lighting does not work for me. I wish to see more gentle tonal gradation in the face and I would rather either be certain I see the details in the background, or simply have it be black. My impression of this photo is that the black is not really black, and this is a shame since the photo needs the full range of values to work.

I like the idea, but I feel that the patch of brown (wood?) to the right of the reader and the patch of light on the page of the book are a little incongruous.
