Hello Gina. This photo was given to me to critique. I understand it was for a billboard challenge, and you did not meet the requirements for the theme. You were supposed to scale the image a certain way and make it seem billboard shaped. The photo itself is not bad. It is clear, good focus on the subject. The Flash? I think you were too close to her to use the flash. In this case you did not overexpose her face, but nextime try to use other methods of lighting for self portraits like this. Do you have spotlights? or any highhat lighting in your house. Try to experiment by directing light onto the subject for different looks.
good luck...Anthony |

Nice portfolio picture but the size just does not portray a billboard to me. I am not giving out 1's because of that because you have an good picture. Just wish you could of made it as 'suggested' 640x320 or close to that. |

Nice portrait, but it doesn't really meet the criteria for a billboard |

ok, i am voting this challenge in 2 passes. in this pass, you will get a partial comment and a score. then i will come back to comment again. if you have any problem whatsoever with this comment, pm me and let me know. otherwise, take it with a grain of salt...i'm not trying to be a know-it-all, i'm just explaining where i'm coming from in voting this challenge. and, if this comment is NOT helpful (of if you think i'm full of $#!+), don't mark it helpful.
billboards are a science unto themselves. a lot of research has gone into determining just how much information a person can digest and retain in specific time spans. they use this information to develop formulas for determining the number of words and letters to use on billboards, as well as their sizes. they also determine the size and number of visual elements to include.
the graphics/photograph on a billboard are designed to get the point across in a moment. on the road, a driver will have less time with a billboard than a voter will give your image. this is a key element in the challenge: composing a shot that will get its point across quickly and succintly. along those lines, a strong composition will probably have few details and make strong use of negative space.

i guess you've already been beaten up by the 'didn't you read the challenge description' gang, so i won't pile on. just don't be afraid to ask in the forums if you aren't sure as to what the description means. don't let this deter your future efforts. better luck next time! |

hmm i think the idea was to make the rectangular
Croping around the eye and the hand would have met the requierments better i think

Good composition and subject, but focus is a little off and not the right size for a billboard sign. Shadow is a little harsh under the brim and chin as well. |

nice shot, but not the size of a billboard as suggested by the challenge. In fact if you had done the necessary cropping this would have scored much higher. |

Cute model. Interesting pose and composition! Not sure this would be put on a billboard though. DId you use a flash? You gotta pretty hars shadow under her chin...

wrong aspect ration for a billboard. also, no blank space for the printed message..anything ere would get lost in in the rest of the image |

Totally does not meet the challenge, being square instead of 2:1 landscape orientation. |

I think you missed the focus a bit. Could be much sharper. Unsharpen mask in PS would have helped a bit with this. Nice shot, but also didn't follow the rules of the proper dimentions (640X320). Goodluck |
