 canon 50mm f:1.8 II - tripod - remote release - window light.

i studied the histogram, and took a few exposures. set the white & black points with levels. used channel mixer to convert to black and white. burned a touch, and dogded a touch.
resized canvas for border. resized image to 640px W. USM, save as for web.

To my eye, the portions of the frond above the central stalk appear to be a bit too dark.

The granite looks like snow with some texture, the way you'd like snow to contrast in your photo but it never does. Strong composition (I like the diagonal) and contrast, good.

I really like the composition and idea on this shot. I would have scored it a point higher if there had been a little more detail in the darker leaves. I think you did a good job on the background with this and overall I like it alot.

Dark leaves are maybe a little too dark - very tricky exposure though.
