I am sure I will get some grief because this is not a landscape photo, but O'well. A little dodgeing and Burning of course. I used a bounced flash from a gold umbrella, it gave a nice yellow tone to the photo which helps with B&W photos. Her face is a tad soft, due to the fact I was using my tri-pod for my flash. Always use a Tri-Pod.

This has potential. I think it suffers a bit becasue of the washout on the cheek. I like the readiance that was burned in?

Yes, he did take some portraits and color shots, but in my opinion they are not what define his style. Everyone experiments, but one's style is what is common and familiar. If every type of photo someone ever took were included in a description of their style, then every photographer would have essentially the same style. In my opion, what defines Ansel Adams' STYLE is high contrast outdoor black and whites, not every photo he ever took.

While I know he took portraits, this strikes as too flippant in its execution to echo the great man's technique and choice of subject. OUtside of the challenge it's a good portrait, but for me, since the focus is Ansel Adams, it's a bit weak. The tones are very harsh too (narrow range) leaving the blacks too black and the whites too bright. Your editing is a little conspicuous on the hair also. Good, offset composition.

Yes he did! I would like to have seen more detail in her eyes. Excellent tonal range.

And he used directional light and got us to see strong textures - both strong points of this photo. I'm afraid most of my time looking at this phot has been in trying to figure out how the highlight behind the subject was made. And in this sense I find it highly distracting. I try to refocus on the subject, but I keep getting pulled away...

I´ve no doubt that he did but they must have been better than this one. The composition is fine but the expression of the face seems strange and the image would have needed much better editing.
