1st i would like to say that i feel so tied to the images that Ansel Adams took, that i find it hard even to touch any part of his great skill. So i took this shot not with his images in mind thinking of how i can capture his moment in my shot I have many outtakes for this challenge but none of them i felt had more me in them than this 1.....The reason i say me is if i where to take a Ansel shot i would be him and as nice as that would be i can't do it so why should i try......
Instead i applied his art, craft (darkroom edit etc.), and sience (the zone system) to my shot i looked for the right place and time.
i jumped at this image as i was biking to church today (sunday the 6th) and could not have found a better moment to stop as cold as it was and snap the shutter.....i almost followed my friend and passed it....then i truned around and took it if i haddn't i would have missed the clouds and everything (as i am looking out my skylight and there is still not a cloud in the sky) the clouds went away and the suns bright beems took hold of the sky........
when i got home i didn't have time to edit but man am i glad as this was the out come....here's what i did-
in PS CS i did-
-(raw coversion) darkened 1 or 2 stops may have changed the WB to shade (for the added reds)
-a slective color adjust. I went through all the color channels and took the reds(magentas) up and everything else back...in did this to all but the white, nutral, and black channels which i adjusted to my pleasing for density.....
-cloned out 2 lamp post and 2 post for volly ball that where in the lower right lampost by the tree line the others where on the beach further down from the fence.
-convert to grayscale
-adjust brightness&contrast #1
-burned to the left under the clouds
-burned in some spots on the clouds
-dogged in the beach ever so softly so as not to throw off the sky vs. land lighting (primary area dogged light area leading to the sun from the beach)
-brightness&contrast #2
-curves
-saved and resampled to the proper size for the site @150kb or under
thanks for the comments and votes as harsh as u all can be it is still apricated....thanks for your time spent in viewing.....
this is just a "Tribute" thanx to possible the greatest Photographer to every live, Ansel Adoms for giving us all alittle of our stlye. And for creating the zone system nothing helps more for B&W images (or even color).
some great qoutes-

Very austere, moody shot which evokes that Adams vibe quite well. Shame about the blow-out of the sun, but otherwise, it's well composed. It does perhaps lack a key focal point though, despite a strong, well treated sky. |

To me, this image is too dark overall. |

Super choice of scene, but the foreground is just a bit too dark. There are interesting details there that should be a bit more visible. Water is great and the sky is good too. This a perfect example of a case where blending two exposures (I know, illegal for DPC) would have worked wonders. |

I like this but maybe my only problem is that the feeling is a little too muted..still a 7 |

White in center too blown out while not enough contrast with the rest |

Extraordinary!
A highly imaginative composition and exposure; a big risk that paid off big. |

I love this picture but it feels a tad bit dark. Beautiful sky and a great composition overal a very nice photo. I love how there are almost four planes of texture. Ground, water, clear sky and clouds. Great job. |

Good work with lighting although the hot spot in the sky is a bit too white. The composition is good and has a nice flow. The horizon could be rotated a little. -7 |
