From the title I understand that you deliberately have only the end of the stand in focus, but it doesn't work for me, it keeps looking like an accidently out-of-focus picture of a singer. |

Since the microphone stand is the only thing in focus, I would tend to believe that is your subject. It is a line but the background is much more interesting. Don't think this works. Would have been much more effective for me if the man's face or the guitar was in focus. |

You need to focus on something more significant in the photo. As it is, I see the bottom of the mic boom. |

Hmm... I'm a fan of putting normally interesting subjects in the background, but I don't think you have found anything interesting in a microphone stand. A good idea that might use some improvement, I think. |

This was a good idea with both the lyrics and guitar strings meeting the LINES theme. The (auto?) focus on the base of the mic doesn't work for me though. ...4... |

i think that the guitar's strings should have been in focus to really capture the 'lines' challenge. however i think that you caputured the depth of the mic realyl well |

I honestly think you would have scored higher if you had placed your focus on the guitar strings and not the end of the mic. I see the line (obviously) but as a subject focus it's not that interesting. On the plus side your ability to capture a correct DOF is great, and that's hard to do with a digital camera. |

I understand the reason, but I disagree with the choice. The image of the background is too powerful to treat like this. The subject, in all it's sharply focused glory doesn't stand a chance. That's doubly true when it lives where several majof lines in the background cross. |

I love the photograph, it is clutching at straws a bit to fit the challenge (IMHO)
have a 7 for the picture being great. |
