My first submission. New camera, still learning (on many fronts). Will see if this turns out alright on the website.
I know that there is an irritating white light in the middle of the bar, a shodow to the bottom left, and that some of the reds are blown. However, I had had a few from the bar before taking this shot. I still quite like it. With experimental over-processing, it reminded me of Hopper's painting (though on checking, Hopper's painting is far superior to anything I have done). Not sure myself if the look is loneliness or boredom, but up to the viewer, I guess.
Thanks to Nick for posing.
Technical bit:
F4.0, T-1/6, ISO-1600
Post processing is crop, size, autolevels (though not much effect from that), NeatImage (because I was hand holding in a dark bar and therefore on 1600 ISO). I think that all of this is permitted in the Basic Editing rules (apologies if not).
Any comments very welcome. |

It's a lovely shot; strong lines, nice rhythm in the bar stools and bottles, interesting lighting. I also like the contrast between the motion of the bartender and the stasis of the customer. Isn't it interesting how, when one compares one side of the bar to the other, everything is different?
If I were to nitpick, I'd say that I find the violet tinged light to look strange with the golden yellow tinged light, and that there are places where the details are lost in the glare of the lights, especially in the area left of the bartender. For a first entry at DPC, from a first time photographer with a new camera I think it's excellent. |

Nice work. You have pulled out almost all of your faults in the comments sections. The light and the shadow. The man at the end could be a little better on focus. I didn't vote in this challenge but from what I see 71st place out of 249 is good. I have never placed that high. Anyway back to the shot. I noticed that a few commenters stated that this didn't portray boring to them. As I look at it I think of lonliness. It is a good shot with nice bright colors, perhaps too bright. But you have potential and good work on framing your subject here. I look forward to seeing more of your work as you progress. |

thanks - should have been, of course, a 1/6 second exposure. |

nice shot , I like the bar....perhaps a 6 second exposure was a bit too much for this, it's not overexposed, but maybe too rich in color. |

that's very nice idea, but the subject is not so at the center of the attention. by the way still a good photo. |

I like the lighting and colors here. It was a stretch for me to see the boredom here. Good DOF. 5 |

I like the idea, maybe a little more motion movement on the bartender, and tac sharp person down the bar and rest of the image........5 |

Nice color and I like the contrast between the active bartender and the still, bored patron. |

What first drew my attention was the blurry bartender. The bar and chairs do form a line which drew my eye toward the guy at the end of the counter, but I'd have rated this higher if I wouldn't have had to look for the bored person. |

I like this shot, it doesn't necessarily say boredom to me, but I like it. Great lighting. It reminds me of sitting at the airport bars for hours while your flight is delayed. I also like the way the bartender is blurred showing the passing of time. |
