Cool pic, but a little too washed out at the bottom. |

Why the car? Why the people of the left? They seem to ruin the time era you are trying to portray. It would be really cool if you had been further awa (permitting that there weren't other marks of civilization nearby), and got it in combination with something else (like a sunset). Beautiful structrure, and I think you captured the theme well. |

I feel this photo has a lot of potential and probably would have gotten a perfect 10 from me had there been no car and no man to the left. On one hand it's a contrast between modern world and many ages ago, but I feel that leaving out the modern commodities would have produced a much stronger image. Perhaps cropping the car out would have sufficed but I guess it's too late now. Still a worthy submission. |

great subject, bad composition, distracting elements (car, people) should not be in the frame |

Great pic , but the car is a bit distracting. It wasn't there in the beginning of Egypt... |

I think the car and the person take away from the picture. I would have cropped them out. Hindsight isn't always on my side. |

This is a nice image. I like how rough the texture looks on the pyramid itself. I think this image would have looked a lot better if the car hadn't been in the image. Nice work either way. |

I like the idea, but the car KILLS it... |

I think the person on the left detracts from the picture. |

Would have been even better if you could have cloned out the car and the person. Very nice, though! |

Too bad you couldn't find another angle to hide the car. Otherwise it's a great idea. |

I really like the composition... the car and the human are height references and modern contrasts... the picture itself could've used a little more contrast I think, it looks a little washed out |

Great subject and link to the challenge. I have many photos of this pyramid (proposed to my fiancee in front of it).
The car really detracts from the scale - I know that pramid is huge, and a person on the lower tier stands would stand only a block and a half high. And you have some distracting tourists walking out of frame on the LHS. Might have been more impressive with a person or two near to the base, to show scale, rather than the car (which is not very "beginning"-y). Also, when the sun is coming around the pyramid, there is a great moment when the light is touching the tips of the stones leaving long shadows - gives a great sense of depth (you have got the sun behind you, I think). Combine this with slight underexposure and you can get the sky a deep blue and the pyramid full of contrast and looking huge! Also, there is a causeway from the sphinx to it on the other side - that makes for an interesting foreground. |

I think this would have been a better shot without the car and and people in the foreground. |

Sorry, the car and the tourist take away from what you're trying to portray....I don't think they had cars in ancient Egypt. |

I like the composition though the foreground is a bit overexposed in my opinion the sky and the pyramid could also use a bit more contrast, but that is just my opinion and I am far from an expert, also I think the shot would be better without the car. |

In the beginning of Egyptian history there were cars? Whilst I appreciate that it's not easy to find a viewpoint at a heavily visited monument like this that does not include signs of modern civilsation, this is far too blatant to really allow this image to work as a representation of early Egyptian history. PS this style of pyramid is not from the beginnings of the Egyptian civilisation anyway but someway through it's long existence. |

To my knowledge Pyramid building is not something that was done in the beginning of the Egyptian history, but I would say it is the first skyscraper. :)
The photo is a bit bright and lacks contrast (apart from the car). Some contrast tweaking or preferably shooting it earlier or later in the day (longer shadows, more diffuse soft warm light, darker sky) might help with that. Now it is the car that creates the contrast and if you are talking about this pyramid's history the car is totally out of place.
The pyramid of Djoser or Snefru would be good subjects as well, those two "failures" are the beginning of pyramid design. Most interesting stuff.
Good luck. |

I found that the car really detracted from the photo - at least for me. Otherwise, it's a really cool photo! |

It was actually toward the end of Egypt's great civilization. Ironically, these monuments, which celebrate the apex of Egyption civilization are sometimes believed to be the direct cause of their decline. Too many resources went into the building of the monuments, not enough into the building of the infrastructure and culture. In this sense the photo provides an interesting parallel with our time.
Post scoring edit:
OOPs apologies. I did not mean to lecture an Egyption on his own culture and history. I frequently imagine what will be the most durable monuments to man's existence on this planet fifty thousand years after he is gone. And the only item I'm pretty sure will remain is the pyramid. Anyway, thanks for taking a photo which made me think.

Interesting subject. The photo could use some curves applied to give the sky more impact (darker blue). A little more contrast would also give the pyramid some impact with shadows a bit darker. Neat place to visit it looks like. |

Little known historical fact: in the beginning the Egyptians used the pyramids as ramps for their compact cars. The sphinx originally was the entrance to an underground parking garage. |

This car spoils this image! Why did you keep it in the frame!? A shame...
Also, if you'd entered this in the cemetery challenge you would have gotten a 10 from me. The car... |
