Challenge: In the Beginning... (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Kitchen
Date: Mar 28, 2005
Aperture: 4.8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/3
Galleries: Still Life, Food and Drink
Date Uploaded: Mar 29, 2005

Not the shot I originally planned but could not find dry sand since it rained all week long. Just cropped, some sharpening and selective color balancing to remove some yellowing caused by indoor lighting. Would like to have spot edited out some bean fragments in the cup and on the handle.

the light is a bit harsh for the subjects, may want to try and use a softbox or bounce

it's your picture and composition... ver nice... I would have preferred the shot with coffee in the cup and beans spread around.

Are you a bean counter? I like the look of the beans on the table. I would have tried to remove the small bits of bean as they distract from the look of the whole beans. Overall not a bad picture.

I don't like very much this picture... in the morning nobody has coffe beans on their table and cup!

yea for coffee. Mug not to my personal preference - something simpler would not have left the focus on the beans, especially as the pattern is blurry (a bit distracting). There are also a couple of "bits" of bean that take away from the otherwise clean representation of the beans.

The cup distracts but the coffee looks yummy.

The lighting on this shot is too harsh. It looks like the lighting on some of my shots too. Maybe we need softer bulbs? Nice idea for the shot though and well composed.

The beans in the cup are in focus, but the picture on the cup itself is slightly out of focus, a bit distracting. Try a smaller aperture.

God yes! Coffee is good!

There's something masculine, unforgiving, plain, muscular about coffee which simply does not go with the flowery pouffy design on this mug. Shiny dark beans are usually espresso beans or beans of coffees served after dinner. Point is there are several pints of cognitive dissonance which make the photo a little more hard to swallow.

I'm perplexed by the fact that the beans near the cup , and the beans inside the cup are in focus, yet the edge of the cup is out of focus and the design on the cup is out of focus. One might choose either to use stronger lighting. Or, if it is a camera that lets you do so, increase the shutter time and decrease the aperature.

Very harsh lighting, each little bean has highlights which is detracting from the overall image. Also the cup is casting a very deep shadow. Try something to soften the light next time
