just a little something i learned how to do at the PhotoShop Down & Dirty seminar...

pulling a polaroid out of an image

1) open an image
2) with the marquee tool select an area
3) rt-mouse click and select 'transform selection'
4) slightly rotate your selection and hit the enter key
5) ctrl-j to create a new layer
6) on the layers pallete, ctrl-click the new layer to select it
7) on the menu click Edit -> Fill. choose any color other than white
8) on the bottom of the layers palette, click the add style button and select stroke
9) in the dialog, adjust the size, set the position to Inside, set the fill color
to white, click ok
10) change the layer's fill % to 0
11) on the bottom of the layers palette, click the add adjustment layer button and
select hue/saturization
12) slightly desaturate and lighten, click ok (yes, this does desat inside the frame...the next step will correct this)
13) ctrl-i to invert the selection
14) yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

more fun
on the layers pallete, click on the layer that has the stroke effect, then click the add style button at the bottom of the layers pallete, and select drop shadow. this can be a fun effect, as well.

also
if you link your hue/sat layer to your 'snapshot' layer, you can move the snapshot around, as well as change its size and angle.

Since I'm always looking for ways to improve my portraits of children, I'm going to bookmark this one in my Favorites. The guide alone is worth "the price of admission." Thanks! :) Stan

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I get stuck at step 7, the whole lot fills with the colour and I lose my transformed layer.
any help?

Thanks
Rob

very suave! i think some text on the polaroid part would look nice, like "Greetings From..." to give it a postcard kinda look. But thats just me. Very nice effect and thanks for the post!

Awsome neat little trick to add "extra" to "ordinary" every day picz.
Black & white background with colored poloride on top is really adding to the whole image. You are very talented and artistic indeed. Thank you so very much for sharing the PS work with us. Hope to learn more from u sooner :)

This is so cool!
It is so much more fun to look at the family album when there are photos like this one in it :-)
And it doesn't even seem that hard to do.
Thank you so much for sharing!
