IMO you had a good idea here by showing your pet with that somber look of "Come play with me" in his eyes. The white spots throughout his face are quite distracting, I think it may be snow. The viewer should not have to wonder what a primary part of the photo is, it should be self explanatory. I also would have liked to see the whole head and ears. Your shot is kind of in between close-up and full shot so it leaves the viewer kind of empty. You have the closest part, the nose in very sharp focus, which is probably not the most interesting part of the composition. The eyes are adorable so they should be included, or the main portion in sharp focus. Your picture is an unusual shape of wider than normal for its height. This makes me wonder if you cropped something out that you felt didn't add to the picture. Only you know for sure. Your exposure is good and the shallow depth of field is a plus.
I hope you find my comments helpful and are not offended by my candid critique. You can return the favor by giving my pet picture a critique after the challenge has ended. I am trying this concept as a way for people to get more in depth evaluations of their entries. Thank you Dick |

Aw, such a sweet face! Nice candid snapshot but not really the portrait type per say. Good expression on the dog's face, nice capture but the items on the left seem very distracting and fighting for my attention. A tighter crop would really bring to dog to the viewer's attention. A 5 |

compostion wise I would probably have cropped this closer to your subject to eliminate the space on the left. Cool Dog! |

I love the cropping in this picture but must admit that the noisy stuff on the left of the image draws attention away from the subject. |

Interesting angle, though to me this is more of a snapshot, than a portrait, sorry. |

Nice DOF, we can see your reflection in the highlights. perspective is very candid. I would suggest to lower yourself and look up or at leat eye level with the dog |
