Challenge: Abandoned Buildings (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Sony DSC-F717
Location: A lonely dirt road

Aperture: f/4
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/320

Levels, crop, saturation and a big ol' border.

Well well, looks like this will be my first entry (thanks muchly to the encouragement of Buzzrock).

The fact that dilapidated barns may be a main focus in this challenge has not been lost on me. BUT, the search for this find was certainly the fun part.

My hesitation with the shot was wanting better DOF, and hating the noise that the foreground trees and other brush caused. However, it ended up working well enough to become my first timid 'welcome sign' for critiquing.

I'm surprised this didn't do better. It's perfect for the challenge and nicely photographed. Some may not like the starkness of the sky, but I think it goes perfectly with the empty branches and the abandoned feeling. The only thing that I would do any differently is maybe work with the dodging and burning just a bit to bring out some more of the wood detail. Great shot.

Great capture of an abandoned building. You did a good job with the contrast - not over doing it. The mood is very effective. Nice capture.

Well, definately thank you to all commentors!
I submitted it knowing it was flawed, but it was just so darn charming in-person! I have learned heaps since this shot and hope to put it to use soon.

What a perfect subject for the challenge. I love buildings like this one. The angle and composition are wonderful. I might suggest a different time of day to shoot, so that the sky isnt' quite so blown out, but then again it kind of adds to the starkness of the image. Some play in curves and contrast might bring a bit more of the textures out of the wood and shingles as well. Nice work, good luck in the challenge!!!

A little more sharpness is wanted here, but even as is the image invokes a past time. Indeed, a very nice subject. 7

This is a nice image. I like the fact that the image was taken in black and white. I also like the fact that there is so much line throughout the image. Nice work.

I find the building to be a little on the dark side while the sky is way to washed out/over contrasted. The bright spot on the left side is a tad distracting as well. It is a great barn shot tho nd good luck in this challenge.

Love the starkness of this one - B&W was perfect choice.

Great composition. Your choice for making it a B&W was a wise choice.
