Challenge: Abandoned Buildings (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A80
Location: Monfort, Isere, France
Date: Apr 8, 2005
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Architecture, Rural
Date Uploaded: Apr 10, 2005

My first black and white entry, normally I'm not a fan, but this one looked better in b/w. It's an old castle that's being restored, hence the ugly cable on the right..
I played with highlights and shadows to bring out the clouds (and the halo!) and converted to greyscale with a gradient map..

Well seen and composed.
In my opinion, the shot coud use some white in it, but then again can't dodge in an open challenge.

Not enough contrast to work for me as a b&w

I like the texture and old feeling of this shot. It could have been brighter.

I like how the hills behind the building blend into the roof-line. It gives a nice flow to the shot.

The "lean" of the building earns this a 9 from me (can't tell if it's true or thru the tilt of your camera.) Otherwise, the shadowy outline of the building's edge played against the stormy clouds (spectacular, btw) would have earned it a 10.

There appears to be a halo around the building. Perhaps a bit oversharpened?

Sometimes the sun makes a great shot but other times the gloom makes it better. nice job

Great black & white shot. It has nice value, and the composition is simple and nice.

Texture, lighting and contrast make this image. Shot is a bit grainy and subject is slightly too centered. All things being equal.....this is stillone of the best shots in the challenge. Good luck!
