ok, if this doesn't get the blue, i'm quitting dpc and chucking my camera!
haha, but seriously, i mean it.
i'm not kidding.
well, maybe a little bit.
oh, awright, i'm just goofing around.
this challenge is the first challenge that i felt really fit what i like shooting: color in motion.
and, i almost wasn't able to enter. i've been on call for jury duty all week, and that really limited my ability to make plans to get out.
i had all my hopes pinned on the DC g2g. i was hoping for a nice blurry taxi shot like this
but, nooooo...dc traffic defines gridlock. too top it off there's just not the same vibrant colors and textures that you find in ny or london or philadelphia.
so, i spent this afternoon chasing my kids through the woods, trying to get something like this
and, i did get a few, but nothing really jumped at me.
as luck would have it, we were invited to some friends for a cookout tonight, and they have a killer swingset in a beautiful backyard that has shadows as well as catches some light.
so, i sat down behind the swingset and told the kids to go at it. i got about 15 decent shots, but this one i liked the best. basically, i was panning at at a slow exposure with a tight f-stop.
i know a handful of people are going to love it, and then there will be everybody else...i just hope that you find yourself on the side that loves it!
--- post-processing -------------
i shot this raw (thanks again, jon!) and really enjoyed playing around with the ps cs raw extractor. once i got the image into cs, it was rather straight-forward: cleaned up a few dust spots, adjustment layers for levels, curves, and hue/saturization (although i made very few adjustments), sized, and saved for web.

What a neat photo. What I like about your stuff is that you have fun with it. You don't take it so seriously that you can't just enjoy the images for the ride they give you!!!
It's a shame where you ended up with this one. Definitely deserves better. But I guess you know already the reasons why something like this doesn't score high. This image needs to be seen by more people, and people who wouldn't think it's a mistake.
