Challenge: Abandoned Buildings (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D

This power plant was shut down several years ago. I think they are going to make it into a museum or something.

I first found this scene for an urban landscapes challenge in my photo club at work. When I saw this challenge announced I went back and re-shot it. This time I knew to show up late enough to get nice light on the building and rails, but not so late that the rails were in shadow.

I almost wished I had my G5 along with the flip and twist screen, as I had to lie down on the sharp rocks to get the angle I wanted, all the while keeping an ear out for the eerie singing of the rails that means a train is coming.

Increased saturation.
Shifted hue slightly.
Rotated.
Cropped.
Adjusted curves.
Applied 3 stages of local contrast enhancement with decreasing radii.
USM.
Resize.
USM.

Great foreground, and great point of view. Looks like everything's been abandoned! Nicely cropped.

I like the angle and the inclusion of the rusted tracks for foreground interest. The plant itself doesn't scream abandoned.

Hey. . . .a fellow Texan :) Hi!!!! This is nice. It's so sharp, and has a nice blue sky. I think the old railroad tracks in the foreground really add to the composition of this. Good job, and good luck!!!

Good vantage point. Nothings too dark or too light. I also like the way the building trails off to the right just like the tracks do.

I like your use of the tracks to "pull" the viewer into the photo.

That building looks newer than someo of the building we have around here. Interesting shot. I love the very low perspective which includes the rusted steel tracks, gravel and ties. Interesting enough the rusty color also appears in the buliding behind and draws the eye up into the building as well as down the tracks. I waiting for the train to come roaring down the track. Very nicely done. <8>
