It looks like a candid photo shot. Not some one who took the time to pose for you. For that end, its well done. Its clear and sharp.
It also looks tightly cropped. So in a way, it looks a bit crowded on the outside border area's. It has a minor appearance of being a little off balance on the left side compared to the right side of the image.
The expression on the man's face seems interesting. It may leave the viewer with distant feeling, or not being able to relate immediately to the image. In fact it looks like a example of a possible newspaper tabloid shot. Where the photographer hurridly snaps a photo of a known celebrity. If this happened, you did a super job capturing the moment.
In review, the tight cropping hurts the image. A little more room on the outside border areas would have made it more generally appealing. The focus and lighting were spot on.
Good luck in your future DPChallenges.

Nice one Terje. Good thing he wasn't wearing the regular general under his lip :) |

Amazingly crisp photo. Must have been a very sharp lens. |

the framing is so heavy -- it distracts with the photo |

Why such a large border? The mans face is well focused and interesting. Trying to figure out the emotion... Except for the border, I like it. Good job. |

Reminds me of a shot you see in magazines of stars or a sports figure. I like it 10 in my books. |

GREAT candid looking shot, but the border is waaay overdone, IMO. You'll probably get comments on the apparent on-camera flash too, but I think it works out fine with this particular shot. Very nice. |

The strong shadow under his chin bothers me, as does the odd glow where the image meets the border. |

I think I would prefer this portrait, if the subject were looking directly into the camera. |

One of the very few occasions when I could imagine such very direct light being of benefit - that evocative, perfectly appropriate emphasis on that jaw - he doesn't exactly look like he's shy about it, huh? Nice work, that I fear may get disregarded as an error; but I hope not. |
