Greetings from the Critique Club

The color in this shot is simply stunning. The balance of purple, the pop of yellow in the center and the black background all work exceptionally well together.

Your focus is crisp and the depth of field adds to the overall impact of the photo.

I agree with some of the commenters that your saturation of purple (magenta and/or blue) seems a little heavy, but that could be a stylistic interpretation.

My main critical comment is about the composition. The lowest petal is too close to the bottom of the frame, it needs a little more breathing room there and the shot could probably be cropped a little on the left side, especially to get rid of the distracting green in the background.

I am partial to flower macros and find this one to be quite stunning, good work.

Technically excellent. Flower looks a little lopsided to me as top petal is folded back (don't know if that is the way they come). Petal on RHS flower breaks into the DoF of the main subject matter and could be a distraction. Quite a central composition - could lose the LHS.

Image lacks a "wow" factor that the top photos have. The image is a little bit cliched: it would have to be a perfect example to do very well (and even then, would lack the challenge of some of the top ranked shots, which will lead to lower scoring).

Having said that, this has not been "slammed" - you have a majority of 5 (I read: good, but no more), 2nd ranked 6 (I read: better than average) and more 7s and 8s than 3s, and more 9s and 10s than 1s and 2s. A fair result for a picture that is technically excellent, with subject that is pretty, but not captivating.

I gave you a 6.

I gave it a 7. However my guess and I could be wrong, is that even though the quality of the photo is very good, it is the content. Basically it is one color, perhaps they think it is boring. I too am not that partual to macro flower shots. I see too many and they are beginning to all look the same to me. I could be wrong?

Very clear, sharp. Great colors.

Interesting lighting, looks like it is almost flourescent, or blue somehow. If you have photoshop try going to color balance and turning it more yellow and more magenta, this gives the colors a little more natural feel.

Love the saturation. I think the dark background brings out the colors great.

Now this photo really shows great Depth of Field. I like your focus...clarity is really good, considering I dont have my Video card installed in my computer. I probably think it would look even better when I get my PC back. ...the black background looks really good with the purple color....8

I really like the clarity and the colors on this one, and the yellow center draws your eye right into it. Good job!
