Hello, greetings from the Critique Club.
Thank you for entering the DPChallenge, Minimalism.
This is a interesting take on the mininalism challenge. I see the inner workings of a computer. There are many parts, tubes, transistors, circuits, etc. Certainly the inside components of a computer are small and they do add to the total piece of the working puzzle. So I guess you are trying to focus in on the small parts in the bigger picture.
Initially looking at your image, it is hard to figure out where you appeal is. There really is not a main focal point to view. The message is there, but it is very hard to draw out. The title is a clue to your message, but the details are not clear.
The blue lighting is a good touch. It almost makes the hardware softer and moody. At the same time there is a lot of light blue constrast on the some of the metal bolt parts. This and the out of focus parts of the computer create a visual distraction.
Your depth of field could have been better. A lot of foreground is out of focus. What might have worked better, was to have a sharper image of the background as well. It seems that the smaller, tiny components could be classified as minimal.
Techicallly, there are several factors to address. The focusing, lighting, and subject matter.
1) Lighting seems to only provide a blue glow, it is not bringing out any of the highlights of the photo.
2) Much of the image is out of focus. I wonder how you even got the camera in that small space. Check your computer/image output when saving for this challenge. Try and keep as close to 150K as possible.
3)There might be some voters who might be wondering, "did this photo meet the challenge. Like where is the minimalism?
Overall it was a a brave attempt at presenting the minimalism challenge. Work on your subject content. Try different lighting resources. |

I see your point, but this does not meet the challenge description. On the other hand, I'd really like to know what I'm looking at. Are these coolant tubes, or light wave transmitters? |

This shot is very busy and I don't understand even with the title, how it is supposed to meet the challenge...

Nice idea. How did you think of this? These brief words for the assignment leave these types of ideas open. Good luck. |

macro picture, not minimalism. What is the subject? To me the whole picture is, not the challenge at hand. |

I am confuised as to which subject is the main subject... which should be more pronounced (depth of field) than the objects that are not main. |

While this may be a very interesting photo, and it may meet *a* definition of minimalism, in my mind it does not meet the challenge description. I like the lighting and the colors and detail, and it's a fine picture in it's own right, it simply doesn't feel like minimalism to me. |

I think your take on this challenge was much different than mine, and that of most of the other photographers. This is a very nice image, but I would submit this under a "macro challenge". In a macro challenge I might score this a <10>, but in this challenge, I can't do that. Your subject does not occupy a very small portion of the image space. "Create an image where your subject is the strong point of the image, but only occupying a very small portion of the image space." <5> |
