Gary -
Thanks for your critique. I'm sorry to say that even I didn't get any pie - it was gone too quickly. You're right about the camera shake, of course. I don't know why I submitted it, but after painstakingly carving that pi in the pie I just had to.
Plenty of pictures, all of them slightly blurred. Low light, and all that.

Hi Martin: Yum, strawberry/rhubarb pie! Looks very delicious, I hope you didn't eat it all yourself afterwards, and shared?
What a pity you shook the camera because otherwise this pic would have done much better than it did. The idea is very good baking a pie with a "pi" sign in the middle of it. A lot of detail is lost and blurring has occured because of the your unsteady camera. I was wondering if you didn't take more shots of the pie, or was the heat too extreme for you?
The lighting is also a little on the harsh on the pie surface but I guess you don't have too much other choice than to use the oven light.
The composition is good and the glowing red element gives the image that extra touch.
And I still think you should have shared some of that pie with me!

Definitely one of the more interesting pie photos! The creative cropping sets it apart. I love the warm lighting too. The subtle pi symbol cut into the crust is a great touch. |

I like the idea behind this but it needs some work. Definitly needs some focus, and is a tad too dark imo. I like the composition, and the general picture, framing etc... |

Great idea. Focus and contrast could be better. |

Looks hot and delicious could be a bit sharper though. I like the red-hot heating element. |

I like the Pi on pie idea. Your DOF is off, so unable to make out any detail. Not sure if you may have been going for a soft focus to represent the heat coming off or not. |

Soft in focus - can barely make out the Pi symbol on the pie - I like the fact that the element is red in the oven. |

The lighting on this pi(e) is superb. I do think it should be in focus, however. At least part of it. It is a good and expected play on words, but I still would like to see some connection with pi itself be communicated more clearly. |

Looks very tasty - I don't think it meets this challenge though. The lighting is tricky - perhaps a bit more light from the front would help. Focus also seems a bit soft. 4 |

Maybe a little too out of focus. |

Now, that's Pi'd. good colour, great idea of Pi too! great lighting idea for the oven, good colour on the pie, good depth. Do you mind if I say, I think the border is too broad? Great photography, though. |

Lighting is horrendous and the pic is very blurry. |

Baked right in... Very nice! Could have been a "technically" better photo though (focus, lighting could be better). 7 |
