This is way outta my norm. It has no people in it - hehe.
I figure most people will be trying to demonstrate an emotion using people; I chose to submit this where the emotion is tied to the lack of people. Doubt it'll do well. Maybe a 4 and in the bottom 20%.

I went with some other photogs from work to shoot on location at the national cemetary to expand my scope. I figured I might pick up some tips from others but in the end we all just ended up walking around and shooting with little communication between us. It was a positive experience and I'm pretty happy with what I produced just because its different from my norm and some of the compositions seem to have a little punch to them.

Editing:
+ Cropped to 1 x 1.25 dimensions (8x10)
+ Added Levels layer to achieve black and white points; adjusted red point to start about 7 points higher than the camera shot it ('cause I am using a warmer palette and forgot to change it)
+ Added Brightness/Contrast layer with relatively minor adjustments to each
+ Added Hue/Saturation with a 10 point bump to the whole image
+ Used USM filter to adjust colors to what you see (settings were 200, 200, 0)
+ resized and uploaded

Good grief. ;)

Who gave this a 10? Someone(s) out there are more empathetic (or gonzo) than they realize. I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach when I shot this. The locale and the sense of lonliness I felt (perhaps from having our group all split up to shoot) probably contributed to the mood I felt when shooting. When I reviewed the shot and started screwing with it I got the same feeling when I hit on this version of the image. Maybe 4 other people out there have been walking through a cemetary or someplace and had a solemn sense of lonliness and this just brought it back for them. I completely get that this was supposed to be an attempt at "capturing and emotion" and not "evoking an emotion" so I pretty much expected this score. I'm surprised to see 4 other individuals who had a "10" kind of reaction.

If it worked for you then great. Thanks for the votes.

color is way to saturated, too much blur. It is obvious that you wanted to focus on the flowers, but the blur effect is too distracting. Maybe have more focus and switch to bw except for flowers

Focus is a bit too soft for my tastes.

A little too over sharpened and contrast, nice repetition

seems like this photo digitally overworked

To me, remembering isn't a mood in itself.. a little weak on the challenge. Also, I think this is a little too over-saturated

the contrast is a bit too harsh imo.

Interesting take on the challenge, looks too grainy though

The high contrast and colours added to the shot fit the photo well.

Something about this seems so miniature for some reason. I'm not sure why, but it almost doesn't look real.

Anyway, awesome photo. I love the colors and small depth of field. And the high grain. All work perfectly together. 9.

Too far away. Too much foreground blur for me. I like the idea.

Too much of the photo is out of focus for me.

really nice evocative shot, and the saturation of the flowers work well. the dof is effective as well. I'd normally score 7 on this, but i'll bump to 8 because no doubt some people might vote this down because it evokes a mood, rather than captures one.

good idea, colors and general phot oquality though are what kills it for me, sorry

Although I don̢۪t say this is a bad picture I have scored this low.
Low in my book is not extremely low, but I guess there will be other people thinking the same way I do who don̢۪t leave a comment.
Don̢۪t take this the wrong way, this is my own opinion, and I am trying to let you understand what some voters may think.

In my opinion this does not meet the challenge, the description of the challenge: Take a picture that captures an emotion.
I looked hard, but I don̢۪t see an emotion. This could be my fault, but that̢۪s the reason why I voted lower as I would normaly do.

Nice concept, but for some reason the flowers appear fake to me (as in they were added after-the-fact). I could just be that they are so vibrant compared to the rest of the picture.
