Monument for Bishop Hooper who was burned at the stake on February 9th 1555 and photographed by me on 30th April 2005!

Unfortunately, the top of the monument is not lit up, so cropping was necessary, but that was about it for editing.

Thanks for the comments. To answer some of your queries. This picture is taken using the spotlights that illuminate the monument. Unfortunately it is rather harsh in certain areas and less so in others making it difficult to get a good, even exposure. With regard to the composition, I did try and get some branches into the shot by moving around to the right, but they don't show up too well. I now wish I had taken from some more angles, but took most shots from a similar angle, just playing with exposure.

The monument is in a street near Gloucester Cathedral marking the spot where the poor bishop was toasted!

I wish the yellow tone at the top could have continued down, but still very nice.

Nice and sharp. The lighting is a little harsh but that's the way it goes with spotlights. Perhaps a more creative composition would help too? There's a little bit of a snapshot feeling to the composition if you know what I mean, sort of a "put the subject in the center and shoot" feeling, that--usually--results in an accurate reproduction of the subject but doesn't let the photographer share his or her creative interpretation of the subject. I usually try to take lots of angle of a subject like this: close up, far away, off-center, centered, from below, from the side, focus in on part of the subject (face? ornate stonework?) to show the viewer something they wouldn't normally see when they look at it. Just some thoughts on how you might be able to take an average scene and make a work of art out of it. :)
