The lamp at the top of a house, taken shortly after midnight on a street in Baton Rouge. I had to do some massive fighting with my tripod on this, leading me to finally give in and order a new one. Editing was minor.

In a sense, this is actually an out-take from that night. It's a much shorter exposure and tighter crop version of a shot of the entire top of the house, including intricate green and dark shadows along the surface. What was (to me) the more interesting shot was marred by a few visible imperfections that I suspect would have caused it to do poorly in the challenge, however. I'll post the alternate when I do my post-mortem for this challenge.

Editing steps:
1) Import from RAW, reducing contrast and shadows somewhat
2) Crop
3) Noise Ninja
4) Sharpen
5) Resize
6) Mild resharpen
7) Export to jpg

Whee, an image that got nearly uniformly positive comments, and tanked. :)

Oh well. I knew this wasn't the most compelling of my images, but I thought the wood texture and shadows, both off the lamp and off the leaves, would bring it up some.

I had an alternate shot that emphasized the green shadows, but suffered from a few minor but visible technical flaws that I expected would get it hammered even worse, so I went with the cleaner, but less interesting shot. I guess it wasn't interesting enough. I'll try to write up a post-mortem a bit faster than my last one.

You should never center the main image. EXCEPT in this case! Lovely. 9

I think this is a nice study of light and shadow and texture. Mysterious and interesting.

Nice job on the lighting, and cropping, though I'm not entirely crazy about the subject.
