This photo represents two sides of a heart. The dark, mysterious, hidden side in the shadows and the bright, cheerful, sunny side slightly overexposed by the lighting. I tried to make the contrasts as distinct as possible while still keeping the photo intact. The cool blue background with some hints of green is to further play up the theme, a juxtaposion of cool blues with the warm red.

I picked out this apple for its really irregular shape, to me it really looks like a heart. I used an industrial vegetable slicer (part time job in catering comes in handy sometimes) to section the apple into about 10 slices.

This is my first submission using my new Rebel!!!
Dont know how to use the beast quite yet but learning as I go along.

Crop, hue/sat, levels, selective color, usm.

Normally I would say the lighting is harsh, but think here it all works. The shadow is the problem I see and it's a little distracting on the left. Over all a fine job, good color, and it's in focus. Good entry for this challenge...and nice slices!!

This is a nice image, but I think it would have benefitted greatly from a dark red or even a black background, and a reflector on the left side. I am personally not a fan of white backgrounds, and am not holding that against your image, it's just my personal preference. I like the idea. I love the heart shape. I like how you have recreated the apple after slicing it. Lighting seems a little harsh on the right, as details in the whites of the apple seem to be lost on the right side. <6>

that would be a good shot for a heart/medicine magazine.

I like how the background gives just enough context in this photo. It gives the apple some bearing in space. Nice work on the apple slices.
