 A welcome site for those making the horrific ocean crossing at the turn of the century. If you had enough money, weren't sick or mentally unstable and weren't an "anarchist" they'd let you in. What happened to taking the poor, homeless, tempest tossed, wretched refuse of our brother nation's teeming shores?

On a positive note, America did provide a better life from the living Hell many refugees were running from. Though, as far as I know, none of us on this site are undergoing the same kind of oppression faced by those fleeing to America, this image was created to convey a feeling of hope that what we want to be improved in our lives can be if we're willing to make the effort.

Perhaps a problem with the sun being too low, but then again maybe not. I've obviously spent too much time looking at this. It was taken from the Staten Island Ferry and they seemed to want to run on their own silly schedule even after I requested a 7:26pm departure to capture the light where I thought it might be perfect.

I rally like this image and expect it to do very well, some will harp on the centered highlight or political nature. As a red-blooded American I can't help but love this image and the emotional impact it provides. This is one that should be hanging on many walls.

I really like this one. At first, I though the horizontal flare took away from it, but after continuing to view it I've changed my mine. This is a really great shot.
