I knew those ant hills in the yard would be useful someday!

I'm shocked at how close I was able to get with my new Nikon camera/lens outfit - this isn't exactly a macro shot, but it's as close as I've ever been able to do before, so I'm pretty pumped about it.

I cropped, adjusted levels, did a photo filter (warm 81), and USM twice (once for local contrast, and again at the end for a slight sharpening).

I fear the focus is too much on the green blades of grass, and not the gritty ant hill, but I'll take my chances, as I think this is a pleasing composition.

Of all the various ant shots for this challenge I like this one the best. The perspective, DOF, and crop all give the impression that it is taken from an ant's point of view.

A most appropriate title! Beautiful natural color. The focus is only on the ant hill which is the subject "granular" and not on the background or even the ant so much. I love this picture AND TITLE because it reminds me that even the smallest of living creatures have homes of sorts. I'll think twice before I step on their "homes" again.

Well, it was a little bit of work finding him, but I finally did. : ) Nice overall effect with the band of focus across the middle. Nice lighting, too, and I love the title.
