Model is holding a handful of sand and letting it slowly run out. I cropped and rotated to upright fist position to give impression of movement. Curves to increase color a little; some unsharp mask to increase luminosity. Taken against a greyboard background with sunlight.

Thanks for all the votes 5 and above..I genuinely thought this was a powerful shot, especially in the rotated position, since I tried it in all directions and even tried it cropped more, but this is still my favorite angle; I agree with Minstrel, it speaks to me, too. On some level it causes an emotion in me, and that's all that really matters: that it touched me and a few other people..

Clever use of rotation. Very good - simple but effective. 8

imo, the 90 rotation is not an improvement.

wrong side ?

I think this is a decent shot, but I really don't get the 90 degree rotation. Also, a faster exposure time to actually see the sand in the air, rather than just motion blur would have been nice.

It's obvious you rotated the photo, but in doing so, you really made it look un-natural.

a tighter crop , about 1/3 of the bottom removed would put more emphasis on the essence of the picture

WOW! I love it's simplicity, and the fact that you've conveyed energy with gravity simply by rotating the shot! There are NO improvements I can think of. This shot just IS. Definitely print-worthy. This is probably the only 10 I'll give this challenge.

Clever to have the sand appear to fly to the side.

The rotation was a good idea. Mirorring the image would have subtly improved it. 7.
