Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - Generally this is a nice pic. I think the subject is a little lacking, but it is a very well taken photo. There really isn't too much specifically wrong with the composition. The thing I like most about it is the branch coming from the top left of the picture down to meet the other branches. It makes for good perspective. It gives us kind of a leading line. The aspect ratio of this photo is a little troubling for me. I would've rather seen it in a different portrait ratio where it isn't this thin.
Technical - I really like the way this was taken. I think the DOF you used is optimal for this. The branch leading down from the top is mostly in focus. The stuff underneath isn't, but we know what it is. The tonal quality of the pic is nice. The brownness of it makes it like sort of a sepia. It makes for a nice pic.
Overall - Not a bad photo at all, just not a real compelling subject. Very well taken and the color choice is good. If it matters, I kinda like the border. THe other commenters didn't generally like it but I think it works. I have to agree with some of them on the aspect ratio thing. Well that's about all I have to add. Good luck in future challenges - Inspzil |

I like this picture alot...I like it the way it is, without any changes. The border is actually perfect and what makes this picture so special is the out of focus background and the soft brownish tones, which not only give the picture a unique feel, but the whole picture reminds me of a Chinese print. If that's what you were after...very well done. |

N(ice) sepia toning. The composition is interesting too, in long portrait format. The main subject maybe a little too centered, but it doesn't seem to matter so much in this image. |

Great composition, love the unique sizing, it works with the subject. The only thing I think that detracts are the overy white patches on the top (sun spots?) and the overly large brown border. I think it would have been far more effective if the border was a bit more subtle. |

i wonder what would have happened if you would have moved around a bit and got a better background. the brown makes it hard to see. where is there ice in April. you must be in the mountainous region. |

Kool. The ice is a little clumpy. I think a simple boarder would have been better, or no boarder at all. |

Nicely composed. Good use of toning and the background is great. |

Risky title - not sure that the DPC prudes might like it. There are a couple of criticisms from me - I'm really not keen on the border, and I also think the proportion doesn't do much for the pic.
Having said that, a very effective shot of the effects of weather on the environment. 6.

Interesting perspective. For me, the border is a bit too distracting. |
