A photo, taken in the morning. ...and I think it's beautiful.

Post processing:
- Cropped a lot
- Converted to b&w (33/33/33 in channel mixer)
- Adjusted white point in levels
- Boosted contrast (+14)
- Sharpened (USM 120%, 1.8, 3)
- Dodged/burned slightly
- Cloned out some hot pixels and a few major elements such as aircraft and large mammals
- resized to 640 pix
- added a 1 pix border
- sharpened again (USM 60%, 0.8, 1)

That's all. I hope nobody thinks it looks to processed, because it's not at all...very simple toning.

* Greetings from the Critique Club *

First of all, I think this is a very nice, emotional shot. It conveys a feeling of warmth and wetness that I think is indicative of a foggy, dewy morning.

I do have a couple of comments regarding the image... I think the lighting is superb. The rays of sunlight are great and the shadows are spectacular. I do think, however, that you might be able to further improve on the image if you were to crop it a bit differently. Some of the bottom shadows are essentially irrelevant to the frame (IMHO), so if you were to cut off some of the shadow of the tree, I think you could bring the viewer's eye closer to the focus of your image (which I assume to be the tree and the sunbeams). The use of B/W is very effective here. I think that the overall effect of almost smoky images is great - and I think that you could further capitalize on that by a slightly different crop. I would suggest experimenting with different crops (always including the tree and the sunbeams, but perhaps minimizing other elements).

Overall, a great shot. Nice work! :-)

Good job removing the aircraft and animals - can't see any trace of them. Nice image, I agree with some other commenters that it's a bit bottom heavy - it's a shame because with a bit different crop, who knows, could have made top ten?

I like this picture for the lighting. The mist that causes the rays of the sun to show up and highlight the tree are outstanding.

Lovely..interesting choice including so much foreground..of course this allows you to cut out the sky, but also creates an interesting balance in the shot. The beauty here is fleeting..i like that. great work.

Beautiful light in this picture! I might crop more at the bottom - maybe make the line of grass divide the photo exactly in half or make the mist side even more than 50% of the picture. All that darkness at the bottom just draws my eyes away from the subtle tines and details in the mist which are truely lovely.

Very atmospheric capture that is accentuated in your choice of mono, I like the crop and the angled shadow filling the corner of the image - good luck

I like this beauty. The light and tones are interestingly very rich and creates a nice depth and atmoshere. But for some reason I also feel that it's not complete as it is. I am looking for something in it that's not there. Probably you have managed to created a world for me and I am trying to bring in a few things I would like to be present in this world. Well done.

I think it's a bit bottom heavy - would have cropped off a 1/3 - 1/2 of the dark grass otherwise it's fab!
